My church saw a 168% increase in unique website visitors from February to March. 😲

I checked the website traffic reports for a few more of my church clients and here’s what I found between February and March…

49% increase for a church in the NW

87% jump for a church in the SE

100% growth for a church in the NW

105% growth for a church in my neck of the woods

Here’s the good news…

The increase has happened REGARDLESS of the ‘physical size’ of the church!

How can you best serve all of these new website visitors?

If you saw that kind of growth in your Sunday gathering two months ago, I bet you’d be strategic in your response.

But now your online gathering and church website are the primary places where you can communicate and connect with visitors.

It’s no secret WHY we’ve seen a spike in numbers.

But how we respond as the church, on our website, and through our online gathering often feels like a ‘secret’ to many pastors.

How can you best connect? How can you help guests understand if your church is a place where they can find help and fit in?

Consider This ‘One-Click Away’ Reality

Everybody is online—meaning most churches have adjusted and they are now streaming online…like you.

Yes, that means the gospel is going forth. However it also means a lot of confusion.

Think about it.

Now, every other church is only one click away for anybody searching online. And in a culture of consumerism, HOW can you stand out and connect without caving in? Should you even try?

It’s NOT about ‘a competition’ with other churches. It IS about connecting with the people in your community your church can serve.

Check Out This Free 30-Minute Training For Help

I recorded a free 30-minute webinar training where I covered…

What if visitors checking you out are primarily ‘consumers’

How to connect online in a culture of consumerism

A simple exercise to help you better connect with the right visitors

So consider this…

With everyone at home, your church website is the most visible way to connect and lead your community through the COVID-19 crisis.

I know you’re all adjusting on the fly. It’s natural to feel a bit overwhelmed by the rapid changes in how you do ministry.

I also know you remain hopeful in the power of the gospel expressed through the bride of Christ during this time.

Create a New, Temporary Website Home Page

Consider creating a temporary new home page for your church website. (Create a copy or back up of your existing home page so you can easily return to it at a later date.)

Yes, a popup banner or alert bar about your streaming service can help. But present circumstances are making for broad changes for how you’re doing ministry.

Remember, your website home page is there to serve visitors by answering their most pressing questions.

A temporary home page might include the following:

Online service info (where, when, & how to access your stream)

Countdown timer until your next online service or gathering

How to Connect in light of COVID-19 (hurting or spiritually awakened guests need to know how they connect to your church in these circumstances)

Any special gatherings or ministries your church is offering during this time (online prayer gatherings, spiritual practices like fasting, service opportunities, etc)

Any new ways to receive communication or experience community (describe your current communication action plan; IE We will send out an email update/FB post every Wednesday)

A Few Ideas to Increase Community and Communication

Online Prayer Gathering: I know of one church of 600 who had 2K people participate in a recent online prayer gathering

Podcast: Either use your current ‘sermon’ podcast show to provide more pastoral updates; or consider a separate podcast for these special circumstances. You can even do an ‘unlisted’ podcast available to those who are connected to your church family. Makes for easy sermon follow-up, easy announcements, and an easy way for your church family to feel connected to leadership.

Email: If you do a more formal monthly email, consider pushing pause. Instead, do text-only shorter emails more frequently during this time.

Social: Continue using social. Look to share ways the Spirit is at work in the lives of your normal folks. Use your public social feeds like a missionary humbly speaking to a hurting, fearful, onlooking audience.

One Final Reminder/Warning:

Resist the temptation to bombard your people with info from every angle.

Get organized.

Get your team on the same page with a clear communication plan.

Avoid staff or leaders ‘going rogue’ or doing their own communication thing on top of what you’re already doing.

Pray for wisdom as you strike the balance between overwhelming people who are already overwhelmed and keeping people informed, connected, and beloved.

I’m praying for you as you sacrificially lead and serve.

Please share what’s working for you and what’s frustrating you. I’m here to help!
Robby Fowlerrobby@churchplanterstarterkit.comThe COVID-19 pandemic has forced important adjustments for how you communicate with your church.CPSK Podcast-12: 5 Website Mistakes Killing the Missionary Power of Your Church’s Homepage2018-11-02T00:00:00-05:002018-11-02T00:00:00-05:00https://churchplanterstarterkit.com/podcast12
Show Notes for Church Planter Starter Kit Podcast, Episode 12

Blogging for Pastors: The Plan & Apps to Make Blogging a Snap

Gone are the days of writing an epic blog post all on your own. There are some great apps you can use to make writing easier. Plus, using these apps makes you a better writer.

Today’s episode continues on the topic of why, what, and how pastors should blog.

Let’s start here.

Approach Blogging Like A Dairy Farmer: Milk More Out Of Last Week’s Great Sermon

Think back to last week. You prepared a sermon, preached a sermon, recorded your sermon, and put it online, right? That was a lot of work for a 30–45-minute window. But what if you could get way more missional bang for your buck? With blogging, you can.

As we’ve discussed, blogging is a great way to repurpose content you already have—like that sermon! Even better, you can put on your missionary hat. Now use your articles to answer the specific questions of your culture. Think of your article as a chance to go a little deeper into gospel application for the non-church-goer you long to reach.

Today’s episode wraps up our first series. We round the corner on the 5th missional marketing maxim. These principles remind you of one thing:

Your church website and brand are packed with POWERFUL, GOSPEL, MISSIONARY POTENTIAL.

I Bet You’ve Said This Before…

There is a common temptation every church planter faces. It pops up when it comes time to create a website and brand.

The number 1 temptation is:

Plus your to-do list keeps growing!

But there are some big mistakes behind the “I’ll deal with the website later when…” approach.

5 Mistakes Behind I’ll Deal With It Later When…
